Nissan Electric Vehicles
NISSAN INTELLIGENT POWER
TOGETHER WE ELECTRIFY
The Nissan LEAF is redefining the power you crave behind the wheel. The Nissan LEAF beats just about any car off the line with 100% instant torque and zero emissions – proof that sustainable transportation doesn’t have to compromise the thrill of driving. Nissan’s leadership position in electric vehicles means we’re committed to expanding our range of zero emission vehicles, bringing the unique pleasures of clean, quiet power to more and more people worldwide.
ELECTRIFYING THE FUTURE
We’ve had many highlights on our electric journey. Including our first ever electric vehicle the Nissan TAMA way back in 1947. Then of course there’s our first mainstream 100% EV, the Nissan LEAF. The journey continues as we build strong relationships with charging experts Pod Point and E.ON Drive. Our investment also grows in Vehicle-to-Grid technology and we look to the exciting future of electric vehicles with the introduction of the new Nissan ARIYA, the electric coupe crossover.
PIONEERS OF ELECTRIC
We invest in a sustainable future. One that’s based on zero emissions whilst driving. We do so with vehicles like the award-winning 100% electric Nissan LEAF and the forth-coming cutting-edge ARIYA. But we don’t stop there. Our passion for electric cars extends to the whole electrical eco-system including Home Charging and Vehicle-to-Grid technology.
CLEAN CAR DISCOUNT
The Clean Car Discount aims to reduce the CO2 emissions of light vehicles across the New Zealand fleet.
Which vehicles does the rebate apply to?
The largest Clean Car Discount applies to new EV and PHEVs registered in New Zealand for the first time between 1 July and 31 December 2021.
The vehicle must cost no more than $80,000 including GST and on-road costs and must have a minimum 3-star safety rating. Any vehicles costing over $80,000 inc GST and ORC and/or without a 3 star safety rating or higher are excluded from the rebate.
The rebate does not apply to full Hybrid vehicles (those with dual petrol and electric engines but not able to be plugged in) nor any vehicles with internal combustion engines (petrol or diesel models).
How much is the rebate?
New EV: $7,015
New PHEV: $4,025
How does the rebate work?
Once you’ve found the EV or PHEV you wish to buy, check that the rebate will apply (ie, that the vehicle comes within the $80,000 inc GST and ORC threshold and then purchase the vehicle. You then apply online to Waka Kotahi (NZ Transport Agency) for the rebate, providing the sale agreement, numberplate details and your bank account. Once approved the rebate is paid directly to your bank account.
It’s important to note that Christchurch Nissan are not involved in this process and that the rebate amount does not come off the total cost paid to us as a dealer at the time of the sale. You must pay for the vehicle first, with the rebate being a transaction between yourself and Waka Kotahi. See more here.
Clean Car Discount programme from 2022
Subject to legislation being passed, the Clean Car Discount programme will consist of rebates and fees for imported new and used vehicles based on CO2 emission ratings from 2022.
Buyers purchasing high CO2 emission vehicles will pay a higher price in recognition of the increased environmental and economic costs they are imposing. The higher the CO2 rating the greater the fee. Buyers choosing zero or low-emission vehicles will receive a rebate, the lower the emissions the greater the rebate.
Further information will be provided on these changes once available.
NEW NISSAN LEAF MAKES EVERY DRIVE MORE EXCITING
With new Nissan Intelligent Mobility technologies, the New Nissan LEAF shares some of the driving tasks, so you can let go of stress, and enjoy the excitement of the ride. Enjoy the instant torque as you put your foot on the pedal, the impressive acceleration will push you back into your seat. The Nissan LEAF 39kWh also has a low centre of gravity, and with the 110kW power and 320Nm torque, you get an instant response whilst driving, making it extremely exciting to drive.
E-PEDAL
The e-Pedal gives you a fun and easy way to drive using only the accelerator pedal to start, accelerate, decelerate, and stop. For instant acceleration, press down on the accelerator pedal. Lift off the pedal, and e-Pedal reacts as if you stepped on the brake pedal – slowing down the vehicle, and in some cases, bringing it to a complete stop.
MORE GO, MORE GRIP AND MORE RANGE CAN ONLY MEAN ONE THING - MORE FUN.
Want to enjoy all the benefits of an EV without having to worry about charging the battery? The Nissan e-POWER system amplifies the drive with instant torque and a quiet drive much like a zero emission EV. This 100% electric motor drive system borrows from the EV technology perfected in the Nissan LEAF and adds a gasoline engine for electrical power generation. The Nissan e-POWER is both a groundbreaking and weather-taming marvel of modern technology.
CHARGING
The Nissan LEAF can be plugged into any standard 240V electrical socket. With a Type 2 charging unit installed, the LEAF can reach full charge in 7.5 hours, so you can charge overnight and start the day with a full 270km of range^. As of Jan 2020, there are 144 DC rapid charging stations in the North Island and a further 65 in the South Island plus another 300+ AC charge points registered on Plugshare.

HOW TO GET MORE RANGE FROM EVERY CHARGE?
Your autonomy (the distance you can drive between charges) can be affected by the way you drive:
SPEED
Hard acceleration, or too much slowing down and speeding up, reduces battery performance. To maximise your range, try to keep your driving smooth and steady.
DRIVING STYLE
More speed uses more energy, so the faster you drive the more often you’ll have to charge. Increase the time between charges with Eco Mode or B mode regenerative braking.
TOPOGRAPHY
Pulling your car uphill takes more energy than driving on the flat. But the good news is that when you drive back down, you can recover energy.
WEATHER CONDITIONS
The temperature affects your battery’s capacity and the energy you use to heat and demist your car.
EXTEND YOUR RANGE
Nissan LEAF offers you two driving modes designed to extend your range and make the most of the all-electric driving experience.
B MODE: RECOVER BRAKING ENERGY
Serious about maxing out your range? Activate B Mode. It delivers more regenerative braking, which charges the battery without compromising on driving power.
ECO MODE
Choose ECO Mode to limit engine output and save energy. It slightly increases regenerative braking to boost your range, too. To get the most mileage out of your Nissan LEAF, use B mode and ECO mode at the same time.
HOW TO CHARGE
EASY CHARGING, HOWEVER SUITS YOU BEST
There are several ways to charge your Nissan LEAF. At home, most owners opt for Type 2 charging. On the go? A wide network of public charging stations also offer Type 2, while an increasing number offer 50 kW CHAdeMO capability.
PLUG RIGHT INTO A OUTLET
The classic way to charge your Nissan LEAF is by using one of the cables supplied. Just plug it directly into a standard domestic wall socket wherever you may be.
PLUG RIGHT INTO AN AC CHARGER
Charge your Nissan LEAF to 100% in less than 8hours with a professionally installed Nissan 7kW AC Charger.
FROM 20 TO 80% IN AROUND 60 MINUTES²
Plug your Nissan LEAF into a CHAdeMO rapid charger and get from 20% to 80% charge in around 60 minutes. Charging times may be affected by a number of factors, please see below for more information².

1Range figures are obtained from laboratory testing in accordance with EU legislation and are intended for comparison between the different types of vehicles. The information does not refer to a particular individual vehicle and does not constitute part of the offer. Figures shown are for comparability purposes; only compare figures with vehicles tested to the same technical procedures. The electric range shown achieved using the new (WLTP) test procedure. Figures obtained after the battery was fully charged. Actual real world driving results may vary depending on factors such as the starting charge of the battery, accessories fitted after registration, weather conditions, driving styles and vehicle load.
2Figures quoted for 39kWh (LEAF) and 59kWh (LEAF e+) batteries. Indicated charging time based on starting charge of 20% and use of a CHAdeMO (50KW) rapid charger. Time may vary depending on charging conditions including charger type and condition, battery temperature and ambient temperature at point of use. The Nissan LEAF is designed to support the majority of journeys in daily life and is equipped with charging safeguards to protect the battery during repeated rapid charging sessions in a short period of time. The time taken for successive rapid charging can take longer if the battery temperature activates the battery safeguarding technology.
